I have been buying from Tiger Direct for years. You can use a Tiger Direct coupon to obtain a discount on any number of items. Some coupons are item specific and some are used across the board.

Black Friday 2011 Online Sales

See the chart below regarding online sales so far for November compared to last year. The chart and information is provided by Comscore here in a press release.

2011 Black Friday Online Sales
The following chart shows the change from 2010 spending to 2011 spending in millions. Note that the first 25 days of November this year the spending was up 15% over the same time last year.

Thanksgiving day (Nov 24th) was up 18% over last year

Black Friday (Nov 25th) was up 26% over Black Friday 2010

That is a significant jump in spending and particularly on Black Friday. The total for the first 25 days was $12,737,000, impressive considering Cyber Monday has not yet concluded and there are 30 days in November.

Total Year End 2011 Sales
Based on the continued use of online coupons and I would not be surprised if using a coupon online has become more common place and lending to higher sales. Last year the Cyber Monday 2010 Sales were over $1 Billion. It will be interesting to see how this Cyber Monday fares as compared to this years Black Friday.

GameStop Removes Coupons

Gamestop decided to open the game called Deus Ex: Human Revolution and then take out a coupon that was inside the box before selling it to others. It is not because they do not want GameStop coupons to be available but because they do not want others to sell or give away competitive services. The coupon in the game was to promote a service called OnLive, which is an online service to allow gameplay on TVs, computers, and other devices.

You can read about it on CNNMoney which goes into more detail. They included part of a GameStop executives email which read “GameStop’s policy is that we do not promote competitive services without a formal partnership.”. I did not realize GameStop had a competitive service, but regardless it is interesting that they felt they could simply open up a package and remove something from it then sell it. This means that if you see something offered in an advertisement it is possible that if you do not buy it directly from the company and you purchase through a distributor such as GameStop it may not include everything as advertised. That is not a scenario I would have foreseen. That sets a strange precedent.

It looks like there are one or more “Occupy Wall Street” defectors. Apparently someone in the 99% wants to be in the 1%. A couple Trademark applications have been filed for the following three marks related to the Occupy Wall Street movement. Take a look at the goods and services below, such as bags, shirts, photos, videos, entertaining materials, all types of clothing and more. Interesting that some of them want to profit from this. I guess there are some Occupy Wall Street defectors.

Reliability
If you have your website sitting on one server, or a piece of a server, and that server has issues then your site could be unavailable. In that case the host is unreliable. Performance
Performance is affected by load balancing. As an example let’s assume your site usually has 100 people visit it in a day and instead it has 1,000 in an hour. It is possible that your site will have issues responding to everyone’s request to view your site. Since Go Daddy mirrors your site across multiple servers they can also load balance the traffic and essentially send only a portion of that traffic to each server. This decreases the likelihood that the site will be more responsive for everyone.

Cloud Servers
GoDaddy calls their cloud server product the Virtual Data Center. That is a great name. A data center is a grouping of hundreds or thousands of computers. That is where you go when you need to scale your website or web services, at least you did prior to could servers. Now GoDaddy cloud servers allow you to have the benefits of instant scalability.
