Over 500,000 Sites Secured with SSL by Go Daddy

Go Daddy secures over 500,000 sites with SSL
I always find statistics interesting, if for no other reason than to emphasize the size of markets and online participation. GoDaddy announced they protect over half a million websites using SSL Certificates. That information is from a third party analyst firm named Netcraft Ltd.

Here is a quote on pricing and service from Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons.

ssl certificate

“In this economy, businesses need to be looking for the best possible value. Think about it, Go Daddy customers receive an identical SSL product as competitors, but with outstanding customer service and for up to 15 times less the cost … now that can make a difference.”

They are now the fastest-growing SSL provider in the world.

comScore Measuring Digital Traffic from All Devices

Comscore (NASDAQ: SCOR) announced that they are now going to be able to report on traffic by device in the press release here. The devices they will be measuring digital traffic on are tablets, music players, gaming devices, mobile phones and anything that is web enabled. Note that they talk about digital traffic as opposed to web traffic because it is not necessarily someone browsing the web but could be someone interfacing with Facebook, Twitter, or any number of services, through an application.

Device Essentials™
comscoreThis is the name of comScore’s new reporting service. A quote from Serge Matta, comScore Executive Vice President of Telecom and Wireless:

“Using comScore’s proprietary global UDM data set, we have been able to develop an expansive profile of traffic patterns across device type, connection type and geography which delivers the critical insight needed by wireless carriers, OEMs, publishers and app developers to optimize their marketing strategies and customer experience.”

Here are some of the reporting capabilities included:

  • Share of smartphone and feature phone usage by OS
  • Carrier share of smartphone traffic
  • OS share of carrier traffic
  • Traffic to site content categories by carrier, OS and device type
  • Mobile HTML vs. standard HTML traffic by content by device type
  • WiFi vs. Non-WiFi traffic

Data Examples
They have interesting information such as the Share of non-computer device traffic for various countries. You can see information such as Canada having 33.5% iPad, 34.6% iPhone, and 8.2% Android and others, then contrast that with a country such as Japan with 11.3% iPad, 49.5% iPhone, and 30.6% Android. Fascinating to learn how the various countries use the devices.

The press release and corresponding reports have additional information you may find very useful.

Website Tonight Review

The Website Tonight product has an aptly named platform. The idea is that you will sign up and within no time have a web site tonight complete with a professional design, graphics, and the text you want. You choose the look and feel of the site you want, choose the color combinations, and your own text and you are done. Here is more about the website tonight review.

How it Works
You start by choosing a template from their library. They have different design and color combinations for the templates. There are also full pre-built websites. Think about the typical website building process. You may work with an individual or a company that discusses your needs and wants and then creates some mock ups of how the site will look. Next you pick a mock up and then they go to work creating the site. This site could take a week or more to create and may be very costly. But with the Go Daddy Website Tonight product you get an entire website already built and you choose from the library.

You pick the color and design. You then simply click on the pages and add the text you want. The process is really that simple. They call the text adding a simple click and type. You can add graphics from a library they provide. You also get a built in photo album and can add video. Go Daddy provides all the pieces to the “used to be” complex website building process. But not any more. Be up and running in no time. You may be worried that the one size fits all websites will not be unique, think again, here is why.

Worried about Your Site Being Unique?
There are over 3,000 different combinations of design and color in the template library. Of the pre built websites they have 120 complete websites. There are also over 8,700 images you can add to your site. With over 3,000 combinations, the ability to add from 8,700 images and the ease of dragging and dropping sections to change the layout you will have no problem creating a site unique to you. I hope this website tonight review has been helpful.

Free .info Domain

You can obtain a free .INFO domain name using a godaddy coupon for a limited time. What is a .INFO domain? Here is some background and history of domain names. Initially there were seven domains created. These are commonly called TLDs or top level domains. Occasionally you may see them referred to as gTLDs and the “g” stands for generic. Any domain that is a three character domain is considered a gTLD. Here are the initial seven domain extensions: .com, .edu, .gov, .int, .mil, .net, and .org. Three of the domain extensions, .com, .net, and .org, anyone can register. However the other four have restrictions as to who can register them, .int, .mil, .gov, .edu.

.INFO Domain Extension
In 2000 ICANN created seven new TLDs which included .info and also these: .aero, .biz, .coop, .museum, .name, and .pro. The TLD .info has been around for 10 years. There are a total of 7.5 million .info names registered. That makes the .info the fourth most popular domain extension after .com, .net and .org.

IBM’s 100 Billion in Revenue

When you are wondering how your small business may hit $1 Million in revenue, $10 Million, $100 Million or more think of others that has been there for inspiration. This year, 2011, IBM turns 100 years old. IBM also reached a total of over $100 Billion in sales. Now you probably will have less anxiety over reaching that first $1 Million.

ibm turns 100Not only have they been around for 100 years and generated over $100 Billion in sales, they have over 427,000 employees. Those are some amazing numbers and quite a big company to have to manage. When your own company seems daunting think of those that have gone before you and take a deep breath.

Merchant Email Paradigm Shift

I received an email today from Puma that I found fascinating. Maybe this has happened before and I did not notice it. First let me say I like Puma, enjoy their products, and this is not a negative comment in any way. Over time businesses have been creating an online presence. They may also sell their products and services online. Nothing new here. However typically in the past when I received an email communication it was about their online store that I could shop at. Today I found this email most interesting.

Paradigm Shift
puma saleI was just about to click on this advertisement (see the image to the right) in my email to go to their website and pick something out for myself for fathers day. I was then going to wrap it, give it to my kids, and tell them to give it back to me on fathers day. That is what you do with little ones, they have gotten me some great stuff.

Before I clicked I realized what the advertisement said. It is 30% off puma stuff but it says you cannot use it at their online store it is for their offline brick and mortar store only. It also says you cannot use it at an outlet store, however that is normal to not have discounts on already discounted stuff and did not surprise me. The surprise is the fact that the email sent to me electronically (as if email would come any other way) told me I had to go to their brick and mortar store. Here are the various scenarios, the third is new to me.

Scenario 1 : while in a store they tell me to join a newsletter or go to their online store
Scenario 2 : I receive an email from them and they tell me to go to their online store
Scenario 3 (Paradigm Shift) : I receive and email from them and they tell me I have to go to their brick and mortar store

I am not saying this is a bad thing, just that the method is somewhat new and I suppose we will be seeing a lot more stores utilizing it. However I am still not going to their store, the traffic alone drives me nuts.

Entrepreneur from Idea to Success

CommentLuv is a comment tool for your website to help grow your audience and more. I have written about it many time as I am a big fan and use it myself. The creator is Andy Bailey. He has created a site where you can learn more about how it was created and to obtain the next version of the tool when it is available. See the CommentLuv site here.

There are videos posted and more coming. You can watch the videos that walk you through his story of creating the CommentLuv plugin and now an entire community. It all blossomed from his desire to not have to maintain a blog roll. He taught himself to program, learned to create WordPress plugins and the rest is history. All while managing his Chinese food restaurant. His story is inspiring, and from my interaction with him I have to say he’s a humble, hardworking, great guy, and his humor makes the videos very interesting.

The videos are very interesting and for those looking for motivation while working on their own ideas you will find Andy’s story inspiring.
