Google AdWords Editor

Google AdWords Editor, if you use Google and have not heard of it you will probably bow at my feet for pointing it out. It is a great tool, free from Google of course as they want you to spend money with them. However, that aside it will save you a ton of time for many reasons.

Time Savings
There are many ways in which you can save time. One of which is the fact that you can credit, edit, and otherwise manage everything without being online. You will eventually have to upload your changes before they will be live however all the work can be done offline.

That is good, but this is great. Consider the fact that you can copy and paste. Wow, what an amazing concept, and I once heard a VP of Engineering say that copy and paste is Magic – ha ha. Don’t worry, I didn’t hire that one someone else did. That aside, it does save you a ton of time because you can copy and paste anything you like within the editor, whether it be campaigns, ad groups, keywords, ads etc.

Another huge time saver is the find ability to make a mass edit or replacement. You may have 4 ads in 10 different ad groups, 40 combinations. If you need to make a change to the destination URL you merely sort them and highlight them all, then change the URL once and they are all updated.

If you do not use AdWords you are reading this thinking it is ridiculous to point out something so obvious, however for those that use AdWords through a browser they will know that the above is not possible. Only with the Editor can you save time this way. If you are managing multiple campaigns, ads etc. and multiple accounts this can be a huge time saver. Take that extra time and go get a caramel bar from Starbucks, okay maybe that is just what I do, do whatever you do and enjoy the extra time. You’re welcome.

godaddy domain auctions

You may think they only provide an auction format, but there are four ways to purchase in a godaddy domain name auction.

  • Buy Now: If you want the domain you see instantly you can buy it immediately in some cases. Basically if your offer equals the buy it now price, you get it.
  • Expired Domain Auctions: You can place a bid on an expired domain name. When the domain name auction ends, if you have the highest bid you win. Expired domains become available at a certain point in time, you are not purchasing them from an individual.
  • Offer/Counteroffer: You can make an offer to the seller and the seller has the option of accepting your offer, or they could make a counteroffer.
  • 7 Day Public Auction: This is a typical domain auction, the starting bid is set and the bidding begins. When time runs out the highest bidder wins.

Free Entrepreneurial Advice

There is only so much time in a day, and so much information freely available. Also you see advertisements for paid content quite frequently on specific topics. When it comes to business and information for entrepreneurs the web has an amazing amount of information. I follow a decent amount of venture capital blogs, entrepreneur’s blogs, as well as CEO blogs. Here is one of my favorite which is actually a vlog (video blog). This is an individual that is both a successful entrepreneur and CEO, Bob Parsons of GoDaddy. He also has a motorcycle company.

Parsons Site
You can see the Bob Parsons site here. He has tips for startups and online businesses. The insight he provides from building three successful businesses is fantastic. He has built GoDaddy into a public company with over 7 million customers and over 35 million domains under management. Remember this is a very competitive space.

Above is a recent video of Bob explaining how he built 3 multi-million dollar businesses. A great site with excellent content. It is also very entertaining at the same time.

Google AdWords Bid Simulator

The Google AdWords bid simulator is quite impressive. This was a tool that until recently was in beta. You use the tool within your AdWords account. The Bid Simulator is different than the keyword tool that Google offers to suggest other keywords and give you an idea of traffic as well as competition.

What Bid Simulator Does
Assuming you have a keyword for one of your campaigns within AdWords you can try the simulator. Not all of the keywords will have the simulator option but if you see the icon next to the cost per click that you are bidding you will be able to try it. Essentially you can determine the amount of traffic you can expect to receive for a particular keyword without having to raise your bid and spend the extra money. Take a look at this image. You can see that the current bid for “play game” is $0.20 and the estimated impressions, clicks and cost may also be shown.

google_bid_simulator

The image does not show the estimated clicks or cost as this was a test account. This simulator is based on estimates, however read more to understand why it is so powerful.

Power of Bid Simulator
The bid simulator is very powerful. However first realize the estimates it provides are estimates of what would of happened in the past. In other words I had checked to look at the dates between 10/3/09 and 10/9/09. If the bids had been increased to the CPC amounts you see in the image then the simulator provides the estimated cost and clicks you would have received during that time period.

For those who are stock analysts you will know the phrase “past performance does not predict future behavior“. Therefore the simulator does not predict the future but gives you a pretty good idea.

Typically you would have to spend the money by bidding higher to determine the impact of the bidding. This is extremely valuable information at your fingertips available without having to spend the additional money before knowing the results.

How to Use the Bid Simulator
To use the bid simulator you choose the Keywords tab in AdWords. Next look at the maximum CPC column with your maximum bids. If there is a small blue icon you can click it to see the image as you see above. Not all of your bids will have the simulator but many will.
