There are thousands of plugins out there for WordPress, I probably use 15 myself and am always looking for new helpful plugins. Many solve a problem, such as a plugin to keep a particular category from appearing in your RSS feed. This is a plugin that not only solves a problem, but provides an elegant and efficient solution for adding pictures to your posts.
Setting up PictureSurf
Installing is a snap. Simply download from the site (PictureSurf), unzip, upload to your plugins directory, activate the plugin and you are done. You will not see it appear under settings in WordPress because it is added to each post you create.
Using PictureSurf
Once you have installed it, simply edit a current post or create a new one. You will see below your post the PictureSurf gallery plugin. It is incredibly simple to use. You can click to add an image, click to add a title, description and tags. You can also customize the gallery title and add custom colors as well as fonts.
Created by
The plugin was created by Alan Rutledge who in the past ran a mobile photo sharing startup out of his Berkeley dorm room on $800 out of pocket (much of which went to Zachary’s Pizza) before it was acquired by iLike in 2006. Previously he was at Microsoft and the startup incubator that pioneered Google’s advertising technology.
In Action
I have added pictures of the PictureSurf site and plugin explanation below in the gallery using the plugin. Took all of 20 seconds, amazing.
Benefits
There are many benefits of using this plugin, here are two: search engine optimization with the easy to use title, description, and tags, as well as a potential increase in page views as the images have unique pages for each of them.
