Google Chrome and Top Level Domains

I read that in the Chrome browser (and I have not downloaded it yet), the multi-purpose explorer field is also used as the search field. When a user types a word such as ‘info’ into the search field to perform a Google search, the browser will automatically redirect to .info. Therefore when the new top level domains come out, maybe one that ends in .cars – a lot of traffic will be sent to the owners of these types of top level domains. Anyone have any insight, is that the case?
